The British Mass Spectrometry Society (BMSS), in partnership with the Chromatographic Society (ChromSoc), annually funds research projects to take place over the summer and the call for Summer Studentship applications is now open. The scheme provides students with opportunities to directly experience mass spectrometry and chromatography, going beyond what they will learn in lectures.
Students receive up to £2000 per Research Project and Summer Studentships typically last six to eight weeks. Additional benefits for the students include a complimentary five-year membership to BMSS or ChromSoc; complimentary registration for one BMSS Introduction to Mass Spectrometry Training Course (COVID-19 restrictions permitting); complimentary registration for one BMSS Annual Meeting or one ChromSoc meeting offered to each selected student (COVID-19 restrictions permitting); and travel assistance to facilitate their attendance at one BMSS Annual Meeting/Training Course or one ChromSoc scientific meeting (COVID-19 restrictions permitting).
Applications must be made by the project supervisor (who must be a BMSS or ChromSoc member) and may be submitted before a student is identified. Priority will be given to projects providing hands-on experience. The call for applications will close on 15 January 2021 and applicants will be notified of the outcome by the end of March 2021.
